Photography Shoot Out

I have attended several shootouts for photographers this past year so I decided it was time to host one of my own.  Teaming up with Jana Moore of JLH Photography located in Mt. Pleasant, TX, our goal was to put together an event for local photographers to come together and shoot gorgeous models in a beautiful location.

You may be wondering, "what exactly is a shootout?"  It's when a host photographer (or photographers) come up with a concept or theme, coordinate models, wardrobe, hair, makeup, and a location for the shoot.  Other photographers then sign up to attend, usually for a fee.  This fee covers the costs of the shoot.  On the date of the shoot, photographers bring their gear and get shooting.  Others can learn a lot by watching different photographers pose the models and work with the available light to produce gorgeous images.  We share our camera settings, lens choices, and other tips and tricks that have helped us and may help another photographer as well.  Another benefit to attending a shootout is networking with the other photographers and models. I've made some lasting friendships with some of the other photographers I have met at shootouts.

We were fortunate enough to be able to host our recent shootout at Building 67 in downtown Omaha, Texas.  Such a great venue for weddings or other functions!  Also, a big "thank you" to our models who did a great job, even in the heat!
