Milky Way Family Retreat 2019 The Milky Way is releasing their brand new Family Retreat this month and I'm super pumped!  And not just because I'm one of the teachers - yep, you heard that right...I'm one of the teachers!  They have decided to include a segment on senior photography this year.  You guys have been asking for it, and they listened.  They also decided to change the date of the release based on feedback from students.  In the past, The Family Retreat has been released in September, but they have moved it to June this year.  This is good news, right?  We are all so busy in the fall.  I think summer is a much better time for the release since we will all likely have more time to tune in.
 

I'm still in shock that they asked me to teach it.  I have to admit - I was super nervous about doing it.  I mean, I'm BEHIND the camera for a reason.   I do schedule family portraits for my family, and I'm in front of the camera for that but this is VIDEO!  That's a whole different ball game.  I actually thought about not accepting the offer, but it was such a great opportunity I knew I HAD to do it!  Talk about getting out of my comfort zone.  And I want to apologize to everyone in advance for my voice, lol.

I have actually been a student of The Family Retreat for the last two years.  I can honestly say that The Family Retreat has been the absolute best resource in improving my family sessions.  It's amazing how much you can learn by watching a skilled photographer shoot.  And it's not just all about shooting; there is always some business training thrown in the mix as well, which is super important.  The variety of topics is great - it ensures there is something for everyone!

So the way it works is there will be 18 instructors and each will have their own video lesson.  The videos will be released over the days.  So 6 on June 18th, 6 more on June 19th, and the last 6 on June 20th.  They remain available on The Milky Way sight for one year.  However, you are able to download them at any time to have forever!  Another cool thing is that you get to be a part of the private Facebook group only for attendees.  The instructors will all be a part of that group for a certain amount of time and you can ask them any questions you may have.  The group continues to stay open for attendees.  In my experience, these are pretty active groups so you can learn a lot of information just from the Facebook group!  Oh, and lastly, one of the best parts are the discounts and sales especially for attendees only.  Each instructor usually offers some sort of discount code if they sell products or use certain products, they will have a code from those vendors.  I've got some awesome discount codes I can't wait to share with you!

I just got the list of teachers & topics and this year's retreat is going to rock!  Let me tell you about some of the instructors... Kelsey Freeman (one of my faves) is going to be teaching how to pose and interact with families.  Lisa DiGeso from Milk & Honey Photography is going to be teaching us how to shoot in mid-day light.  This is great because you can't always shoot at golden hour, right?  Have you seen Rachel Nielsen's work?  If you haven't, go look her up right now!  Her work is gorgeous!  She is going to be talking about light, editing and posing in her video.  Have you been wanting to learn how to incorporate video into your sessions?  Well, Courtney Holmes is going to be teaching on this very topic!  I'm really excited about this one.  And that's just the tip of the iceberg...
