3 TIPS TO CAPTURING SILHOUETTE PHOTOS

Follow these tips to capture beautiful silhouette photos:

1.  The right location and timing.  You need to choose a location free from distracting elements or other people in the background.  An elevated area, such as a hill works great.  Somewhere that you can shoot up at your subject.  You'll need to shoot when the sun is low in the sky.  That means just after sunrise or just before sunset.

2.  Position.  To capture a silhouette, the light should be behind your subject.  You will need to shoot towards the light.  Your background should be brighter than your subjects.  If your subjects can be on a higher plain than you, this also helps.

3.  Exposure.  You want to expose for the background in a silhouette.  If you are using a phone, tap the brightest part of your screen.  If you are using a DSLR, dial down your exposure until the sky is properly exposed and your subjects are completely in shadow.

That's the basics to capturing a silhouette!  Now go practice and have some fun!
