Choosing the Perfect Planner + My Top 3 Recommendations

July 31, 2019  •  1 Comment

I confess.  I could not get through the day without my planner.  I have so much going on in my life that I have to constantly remind myself of appointments and due dates.  I know many people just use their phone these days and plan digitally, but I just can't make that work.  If you are a visual person like I am, then you probably need to see it as well.

With a new school year on the horizon, this is the perfect time to invest in a new planner.  Here are 5 things to consider when choosing the perfect planner for you:

1.  Size

Do you need something that is smaller that can fit in your purse or bag, or do you like something bigger that has more space to write and make notes?  Don't forget to consider the weight of the planner as well.  The bigger the planner, the heavier.  An oversized planner can really weigh down your bag so it's definitely something to consider.  However, you don't want the writing areas to small for your needs either.

2.  Features

What type of design do you prefer for your planner?  Do you just need a monthly calendar to keep track of appointments?  Or does your life require a weekly or maybe even daily layout?  Some of the planners that offer weekly and daily calendars come in vertical or horizontal orientation.  So be sure and check that out while your are making a decision.

3.  Binding Style

Do you prefer a simple spiral bound book or a three-ring bound design?  The spiral bound planners are usually less bulky but the ring bound designs have bonuses such as the ability to add extras.

4.  Extras

Speaking of extras...certain planner brands offer extras that can be added to the original planner.  Some examples of extras are goal setting pages, budget planning, meal planning sheets, project pages, zipper pouches, folders, and more!  These options can really help tailor the planner to your specific needs.

5.  Budget

Last but not least; how much do you want to spend?  Some planners are made to order and can get pricey.  It depends on how important a planner is in your daily life.  Are you willing to pay for a specially made design or will a "one size fits all" suit your needs?

My Top 3 Planner Recommendations:

1.  The Happy Planner

This is my number one choice because of the options, extras, and price.  The Happy Planner is a ring bound design and you can purchase extra to add in and you can also remove things you don't need or like.  It's available at Micheal's and I believe Walmart carries them as well.

2.  Erin Condren Planner

My EC Planner was super nice but a bit pricey.  They offer lots of customizations which makes it nice.  You can even get a photo cover which I love.

3.  The Simplified Planner by Emily Ley

These planners come in multiple designs.  The Emily Ley Planner has a spiral binding which is a negative for me.  Overall, a great planner!

So are you ready to get organized for a new school year?  Happy Planning!
